Diagnostics

Finding out what truly underlies a condition is important.
A valuable component of this inquiry is diagnostic testing.
I can utilize and perform the same traditional tests available as well as more progressive tests outlined below:
The first test I recommend for all patients is:
*Blood Type Determination if not known

As we work together I may recommend the following:
*Genetic Testing
*Vitamin & Mineral Assay
*Toxic Metal Levels
*Intestinal Health Assessments
*Hormone Panels
*Traditional Labs, Blood work or X Ray, MRI
Insurance may cover some of these tests.

Too often, people have been sent for lab work only to be told-everything is “fine” when you know it is not and are very confused.  After we receive your tests or decide what tests to perform- I read the results and help you to understand what they have revealed and what your it means for your health.  If you would like to bring in labs and reports you have already had performed-I will do my best to interpret them for you so you can get a better understanding of your health.  For a complete explanation of tests you may want to refer to the site LabTestsOnline.Org  This is a non-profit, maintained by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) and other professional groups. BLOOD TYPE TESTING-$35
Knowing your blood type is a key component of your Whole Peron Approach to Healing.  Many people do not know what their blood type is, too no fault of their own.  Many doctors simply do not gather this information nor do the have a record of it for their patients.  Your blood type can be determined with a simple, painless in office test with an immediate result.  This information helps to determine the best diet and foods for you to be eating, what you can do to enhance your health and prevent diseases conditions you may be prone to.
This is done in the office in less than 5 minutes.
If you already know your blood type-begin the journey here:
Blood Type O-About O     All_About_You_O
Blood Type A-About A      All_About_You_A
Blood Type B-About B    All_About_You_B
Blood Type AB- About AB    All_About_You_AB

Another aspect of blood type is to know your secretor status.  That is-do you secrete your blood type in body fluids or not.  This can be useful to know especially if you experience allergies.  Understanding Secretor Status

NEUROTOXICITY TESTING-Pricing Varies
Heavy Metals, pesticides, Gyphosate, mold, Lyme are all increasing epidemics.  How burdened and toxic are you? Identifying the key factors will focus your detoxification Protocol.  Based upon history and exposure these tests may be recommended.

GENETIC TESTING-Pricing Varies
We all have genes that predispose us to certain illnesses.  Knowing these genetic markers can help us focus our healing by turning them on or off with specific nutritional and lifestyle strategies.

Specific genetic testing information regarding Immunity, Detoxification, Cardiac function, Hormones and more can be done thru several labs. Consider Functional Foundations

Understanding our Genetic SNP’S (also known as Snips) is key to further refining our supplement and healing plans. Read A Beginners Guide to Genetic Mutations in Plain English

One of the Genetic SNPS that I find important to determine is an individuals MTHFR Status.

What is MTHFR – (Methylene-tetra-hydro-folate-reductase) is an enzyme found in the cells of our body. It is needed to metabolize (break down) homocysteine, an amino acid found in the proteins you eat.
Sometimes a persons MTHFR has a genetic defect. These defects are fairly common and its estimated by some studies that up to 60% of the population have one MTHFR mutation or another.  This mutation may play a role in impaired detoxification.

Another genetic defect or significance is the COMT gene.
COMT Gene Symptoms

Symptoms of MTHFR deficiency are below-

1. Environmental poisoning can increase when not enough Glutathione is present to detox the body.  Glutathione is responsible for detoxifying the body of heavy metals, toxins, and BPAs, etc. that we encounter in the environment.  Glutathione is our body’s most powerful antioxidant and is needed for liver detoxification. When a body gets too burdened by heavy metals and toxins, from vaccines to breast implants, household chemicals to GMO foods and pesticides a lot of unexpected health problems emerge as the liver becomes overburdened. Some symptoms of this can be: Nausea, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Liver and Kidney dysfunction, Hypertension, Tachycardia, Pulmonary fibrosis, Asthma, Auto-immune problems, Hair loss, Rashes, thyroid issues and much more.

2. Central Nervous System disorders – some of these come from not having enough SAMe. SAMe is responsible for creating Serotonin & neurotransmitters responsible for mood, motivation, and to some degree energy levels.  If these neurotransmitters are low, then Depression is often the result, but even aggression and alcoholism are symptoms sometimes found in men.  Pregnant women may encounter extreme Post-partum depression. In addition, things like Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Migraines, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Memory loss with Alzheimer’s and Dementia as well as other psychiatric problems can be tied to this issue (OCD, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, and more).

 3. Cardiovascular problems often occur when Homocysteine levels in the body are too high. Heart attack, Stroke, Blood clots, Peripheral neuropathy, Anemia even Miscarriages, and Congenital birth defects can be related to this issue among other symptoms.

HAIR ANALYSIS-$135

This test is so valuable and I recommend this for all of my patients. Providing a mineral blueprint of one’s biochemistry, a hair tissue mineral analysis can provide pertinent information about:
*What Supplements are needed
*Metabolic Rate and digestion
*Detoxification Rate
*Sugar and carbohydrate tolerance
*Stage of stress-Alarm, Resistance or Exhaustion
*Immune system function
*Adrenal and Thyroid glandular activity
*Mineral deficiencies of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Iron, Chromium, Boron, Selenium
*Toxic metal levels such as Lead, Mercury, Arsenic, Cadmium, Aluminum.

Hair Analysis is non-invasive (easy to collect), relatively inexpensive and accurate, especially for children.  If hair is dyed or treated body hair may be used.  A hair tissue mineral analysis is considered a standard test used around the world for the biological monitoring of trace elements and toxic metals in humans and animals.

NUTRA EVAL BY GENOVA DIAGNOSTICS
Do you have adequate levels of basic life-supporting vitamins?  This simple test done at home detects levels of basic vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, Alpha Lipoic acid, Glutathione, toxic metals, amino acids and organic acids indicating detoxification efficiency..  This requires a blood and urine sample.  Ideal to do this before taking multivitamin supplements for greater accuracy.  Insurance may cover these tests.
NutraEval Sample Report Blood and Urine Collection

This version below is without a Blood Draw and is a urine Collection only thus I frequently recommend for children.  It will not provide a measurement of Heavy Metal Toxicity.  For Children-Hair Analysis is recommended to test toxic metals/minerals.

TOTAL COMPREHENSIVE HORMONE PROFILES
Saliva and Urine are an excellent means of getting information on hormone levels and metabolites of hormones.  This is ideal for menstruating women, women struggling with fertility issues, miscarriage, women in menopause or peri-menopause.  With this information we can be more specific when prescribing a natural hormone supplementation program.
The testing covers:
*DHEA, Pregnalone, Estrogen, Testosterone, Progesterone and Melatonin
*Cortisol and Adrenal Stress-The test measures Varying Daily Fluctuations-Morning-Mid-day and evening.

Testing is based on current menses, menopause, symptoms and other patient factors.
